Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil or butter.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef along with the diced onion. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain the excess fat.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.

Assembly

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Spread half of the beef mixture over the potatoes, then pour half of the sauce on top and sprinkle with one cup of cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and sauce, adding the rest of the cheese.

Cooking

  • Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking. Experiment with different cheese types for unique flavors. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
