Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened For richness and moisture
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar For sweetness
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar For chewiness and moisture
  • 2 large Eggs For structure and binding
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract For flavor enhancement
  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour For structure
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa powder For chocolate intensity
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder For light lift
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt To balance flavor
  • 2 cups Chocolate chips For rich chocolate flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, stirring until just blended.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips to ensure they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spaced adequately to allow for spreading.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  • Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For thicker cookies, consider chilling the dough for at least an hour before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container; they can be frozen for up to three months.
