Burger Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend) For optimal juiciness
  • to taste salt and pepper For seasoning
  • 4 slices American cheese For that delicious melty goodness
  • 4 hamburger buns Soft and ideally toasted
  • 2-3 large russet potatoes For homemade fries
  • to taste olive oil For cooking the fries
  • various optional toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard) Adjust to personal preference

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form them into loose balls.
  • Season each beef ball with salt and pepper.

Cooking the Burgers

  • Place the beef balls onto the grill/skillet, then smash them flat using a sturdy spatula.
  • Season the patties with more salt and pepper, and let them cook undisturbed for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on top to melt.

Cooking the Fries

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Wash and slice the russet potatoes into wedges.
  • Toss the wedges in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and pepper until well coated.
  • Spread the wedges on a baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Assembly

  • Toast the burger buns on the grill until golden brown.
  • Assemble the burgers with your chosen toppings and serve hot alongside the freshly baked fries.

Notes

For extra crispy fries, soak potato wedges in cold water for 30 minutes before seasoning and baking. You can also use brioche or pretzel buns for added flavor.
