Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare the yellow cake mix according to package instructions, substituting water with pineapple juice.
  • In a 9x13 inch baking dish, melt half a cup of unsalted butter over low heat and sprinkle an even layer of brown sugar over it.
  • Arrange the pineapple rings on top of the brown sugar mixture, placing a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.
  • Pour the prepared cake batter over the pineapple and cherry arrangement.
  • Bake for approximately 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool slightly, then invert onto a serving plate to reveal the caramelized topping.

Notes
