Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough

  • In a medium bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar; stir and let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and red velvet cake mix.
  • Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients, add melted butter and egg, and mix until a dough forms.
  • Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).

Shape the Rolls

  • Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, about ½ inch thick.
  • Spread melted butter over the rectangle, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll into a log and slice into pieces approximately 1 to 1.5 inches thick.

Final Rise and Bake

  • Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Prepare the Icing

  • Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until desired consistency.
