  • 1 pound Ground beef Use 80/20 or 90/10 fat content
  • 1 medium Diced onions (optional) For added sweetness
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic (optional) Enhances flavor
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese Classic cheese choice for melting
  • 4 slices Slices of bread Thicker-cut preferred for best results
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For spreading on bread
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning the beef

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned.
  • If using, add diced onions and minced garlic once beef loses its pink color and cook until tender.

Cooking the Filling

  • Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Reduce heat slightly and fold in shredded cheddar cheese until melted.

Assembling the Sandwich

  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place one slice butter-side down on a board and scoop the beef mixture on top.
  • Top with another slice of bread, butter-side up, to complete the sandwich.

Grilling

  • Return the sandwich to the skillet over medium-low heat and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Flip the sandwich and cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove from skillet and slice diagonally before serving.

Notes

Feel free to customize with your preferred vegetables or cheeses. Store leftovers tightly wrapped for up to three days in the fridge or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in a skillet to restore crispness.
