Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Must be at room temperature.
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar Provides sweetness.
  • 3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder For the chocolate flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream Adjust for desired consistency.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 1 pinch Salt Balances sweetness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or non-stick spray and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour blend, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mixing Batter

  • In another bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs. Mix well until combined.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk, then gradually add vegetable oil while mixing until it becomes creamy.
  • Incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gradually, then add hot water. Stir until the batter is smooth.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans, then tap the pans gently on the counter.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted came out clean.

Cooling and Frosting

  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For the frosting, beat unsalted butter until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and heavy cream. Mix until smooth, adding vanilla and salt.
  • Frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Notes

Use a high-quality gluten-free flour blend containing xanthan gum for best results. Accurately measure ingredients and avoid opening the oven door frequently while baking.
