Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the pure vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Alternately add the dry mixture and the milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the surfaces.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes
